NSW: Carparks becoming hotspots for Sydney thieves=2

Over the 24 months to December 2007, motor vehicle theft fell by 5.5 per cent, while
break and enter into commercial and government buildings fell by 10.4 per cent.

Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm also dropped by seven per cent.

BOSCAR director Don Weatherburn said there had also been an increase in the number
of arrests for heroin use or possession over the past 24 months, in particular in Sydney
in August and November last year.

An examination of the trend over five years, however, suggested it was a "bounce-back"

to normal levels, rather than the start of an upward trend, Dr Weatherburn said.
