NSW: Large IR rally expected to cause traffic chaos
SYDNEY, Aug 24 AAP - The centre of Sydney is likely to be brought to a standstill by a
large protest against the federal government's second wave of industrial relations law reforms
today.
Commuters have been warned to avoid the city centre where up to 20,000 workers, accompanied
by a large number of trucks, are expected to march in the lunchtime protest.
NSW Labor Council spokesman Peter Lewis said the demonstrators would march from Hyde Park
to outside Prime Minister John Howard's office in Phillip Street where a concert will be held.
Mr Lewis warned commuters to avoid the city centre today as traffic was likely to be
disrupted by the demonstration, which starts at 12.30pm (AEST).
