NSW: Sunday delivery for late ordered tickets scrapped
Plans by Australia Post to deliver late-ordered Olympic tickets this weekend have been
scrapped after a mix-up by Games organisers.
An industrial dispute between Australia Post and postal workers had earlier threatened
Sunday's planned delivery, but in the end it was the failure of the tickets to arrive
in time from SOCOG that caused delivery to be postponed to next week.
The postal workers' union is in dispute with Australia Post over plans to deliver tickets
bought after June 15.
It says staff won't deliver the tickets because they aren't being paid an Olympics bonus.
But its argument became irrelevant this afternoon, when Australia Post said it hadn't
received the tickets from SOCOG, so it couldn't make the delivery anyway.
The tickets will now be mailed Express Post next week.
And negotiations between Australia Post and the union -- which is demanding an Olympic
bonus of $400 for each worker in NSW -- are expected to resume tomorrow.
